Causticum (Kali hydroxide, preparation from lime and potash)

Causticum is a hypersensitive idealist—altruistic and anxious—passionate about great causes and deep philosophies. Drawn to spirituality, it commits fully to ideals of justice, liberty, and fraternity, seeking to transform the world according to its convictions. Injustice is unbearable; it rejects authority, especially when arbitrary.

With great empathy, Causticum feels others’ suffering deeply and throws itself into its battles, sometimes to excess, verging on rigidity or fanaticism, which can weary those around it. Its analytical mind and need for justice push it to act, yet it sometimes lacks the mental stamina to carry struggles through.

Sensitive to atmosphere and others’ misery, it sympathizes sincerely but may be overwhelmed by emotion. Pessimistic, it constantly fears imminent danger for itself or others. This anxiety, combined with a passionate temperament, can lead to compulsive or obsessive behavior when unbalanced, such as repeated checking. Seeking company to counter fear of solitude, Causticum loves intensely and quickly becomes ardent in affective bonds.
